3. 하나님의 부르심

만일 당신이 하나님께서 무엇을 하실 수 있는지 만을 안다면 당신의 말할 수 있는 것은 기껏해야 논리적으로 교리를 말하는 것이다. 그러나 만일 당신이 하나님의 부르심을 들었다면 당신은 언제나 하나의 중심, 즉 주 예수 그리스도의 인격(Person, 위격)에 집중하게 될 것이다.

예수 그리스도의 완벽한 통치 하에 있지 않은 감정이나 사역의 부름을 거절하라.

만일 하나님의 부르심을 듣고도 순종하기를 거절한다면 나는 가장 둔하고 천한 그리스도인이 될 것이다. 그 이유는 보고 들은 후에도 순종을 거절하였기 때문이다.

이 땅에서의 어떤 체험 때문에 하나님의 부르심을 받았다고 오해하지 말라. 하나님의 부르심은 당신의 모든 체험보다 더 중요하다는 점을 알아야 한다. 당신의 소명을 위압할 수 있는 것은 아무 것도 없다.

하나님의 음성을 들으며 섬기는 자는 결코 지치지 않는다. 그 이유는 섬기는 영감이 사람을 의식하는데서 오는 것이 아니라 하나님부터 직접 오기 때문이다.

소명은 하나님의 의해 사로잡힌 내면의 동기로서 모든 사람을 예수님의 제자로 만드는 목표를 위해 다른 목표들을 다 버리는 것이다.

하나님께서 친히 부른 사람이 하나님을 위해 일하도록 뽑힌 사람보다 수백 배도 더 귀하다.

하나님의 부름을 기다려야 한다고 아는 것은 잘못 알고 있는 것이다. 당신이 하나님의 부름을 실현할 수 있는 그러한 상태에 있는지 자신을 살펴 보라 (참조, 사 6:8).

하나님께서 당신을 주의 사역으로 부르실 때 아무도 당신이 그 부르심에 순종하는 것을 방해하지 못하도록 하라. 하나님께서 원하시는 대로 하게 하라. 주님은 당신이 어디에 있는지, 언제 당신을 주의 손 안에서 찢겨진 빵이 되게 해야 하는지 정확하게 아신다.

하나님의 부르심이 있어야 동료를 돕는 것은 아니다. 동료를 돕는 것은 모든 인간이 마땅히 할 일이다. 그러나 우리가 하나님의 동역자가 준비되려면 하나님의 은혜의 초자연적인 역사가 필요하다.

만일 누군가가 복음 전파를 위해 부름을 받게 된다면 하나님은 그를 짓이기셔서 그의 눈 빛, 삶의 능력이, 마음의 열정 등 전부가 오직 주님께 집중되도록 하실 것이다. 이 과정은 쉽지 않다. 이는 성도가 어떻게 되느냐의 과정이 아니라 하나님의 부르심에 합당한 사역자가 되는 과정이다.

The Call of God

If you only know what God can do your talk is altogether of that, a logical exposition of doctrine, but if you have heard God’s call you will always keep to the one centre, the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Discard any emotion or call to work which cannot find itself at home in the absolute mastery of Jesus Christ.

If I hear the call of God and refuse to obey, I become the dullest, most common-place of Christians because I have seen and heard and refused to obey.

No experience on earth is sufficient to be taken as a call of God; you must know that the call is from God for whom you care more than for all your experiences; then nothing can daunt you.

You can never fag the life out of the one whose service springs from listening to the voice of God, its inspiration is drawn not from human sympathy, but from God Himself.

The Call is the inner motive of having been gripped by God—spoilt for every aim in life saving that of disciplining men to Jesus.

One man or woman called of God is worth a hundred who have elected to work for God.

It is an erroneous notion that you have to wait for the call of God: see that you are in such a condition that you can realise it (see Isaiah 6:8).

If God has called any man or woman in this College* into His service, as He undoubtedly has, never allow anyone to interfere with your obedience to His call. Let God do what He likes, He knows exactly where you are, and when the time is fit to make you broken bread in His hands.

We need no call of God to help our fellow men, that is the natural call of humanity; but we do need the supernatural work of God’s grace before we are fit for God to help Himself through us.

If a man is called to preach the Gospel, God will crush him till the light of the eye, the power of the life, the ambition of the heart, is all riveted on Himself. That is not done easily. It is not a question of saintliness, it has to do with the Call of God.
